Interior Design Show (Feb. 21-24, 2008)

The Sustainable Condo was open during the Interior Design Show (IDS) where a a hydrogen bus shuttled IDS visitors from the show to the Condo.
In 2008, staff from Roomy Home Interiors worked their magic to revamp many features and the overall look of the exhibit in time for the Interior Design Show. This set the scene for a year-long exhibition of the condo within the CMHC Eco Pods at Exhibition Place. Although the furnishings, technologies and interior design of the condo had changed several times since its creation in Vancouver in 2004, the recent makeover is by far the most impressive. Please visit the Video Tour section of this website to see and hear more about the condo’s latest look. From 2004-2007 more than 150,000 people visited the Sustainable Condo. The exhibit opened for the 2008 Interior Design Show and has been accessible to the public during other events (such as the Canada Day Weekend CHIN Picnic) and to groups through specially arranged tours. The Sustainable Condo will next be open to the public during the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), August 15 – September 1, 2008.

Live Earth on CTV (Jul. 6-7, 2007)

In partnership with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and key supporters, EcoSmart’s Sustainable Condo was featured on CTV’s massive 28-hour Live Earth broadcast July 6-7, 2007.
The life-size condo exhibit served as the backdrop during the Canadian broadcasts of Live Earth, a series of concerts in nine cities around the world. This global reach of music – spearheaded in part by Al Gore – engaged people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis. In an effort to galvanize people from across Canada to “answer the call” about climate change, CTV ran a marathon 28-hour broadcast, starting at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Friday, July 6. Through the Sustainable Condo, EcoSmart and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) offered television viewers a tangible way to tackle climate change. About the CTV Broadcast Canadians were able to tune into the world s largest High Definition concert broadcast of all time. CTV’s Live Earth coverage was the longest, single program ever broadcast by the network. Live coverage began at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Friday, July 6, when the first artist took to the stage in Sydney, Australia, and continued until 11pm ET/8pm PT on Saturday, July 7, when the historic event concluded at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. All 9 of the Live Earth events were shown on CTV Television. The CTV broadcast also appeared on Bravo, MTV Canada, Much Music, MuchMoreMusic, and MuchVibe. For further information see the CTV Live Earth broadcast webpage (www.ctv.ca/mini/liveearth2007). EcoSmart’s Sustainable Condo is a full-size display suite that demonstrates how human comfort and environmental responsibility can be achieved by combining smart, innovative design with state-of-the-art green building technologies, materials and products that are available from local suppliers and manufacturers. Representatives from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) – EcoSmart’s condo partner – were on hand in the exhibit during CTV’s Live Earth broadcast to explain to television audiences about the features of this interactive green building protoype. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Sustainable Condo within the context of global action on climate change.
