EcoSmart and its partners were pleased to showcase the Sustainable Condo in the launch of the CMHC Eco Pods, the new educational display at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.
The exhibit was done up in a holiday theme, decorated in a green, eco friendly manner with items such as trees, wreaths, eco gifts and eco candles. This festive event wrapped up a successful series of shows for the Sustainable Condo in Toronto in which close to 70,000 people – including industry professionals and consumers – visited the exhibit. Building on that success, the Sustainable Condo was given a home at Exhibition Place within the former Music Building, now renamed as the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Eco Pods. The condo is a part of a larger educational exhibit showcasing green technologies, a joint initiative in co-operation with Exhibition Place and the City of Toronto. The permanent educational display was launched on November 29, 2007 and will be maintained as a public display at least until December 31, 2008. The central theme of the educational display will be the Sustainable Condo, occupying one of the three pods. The second pod will provide other display opportunities in the form of moveable display cases and wall banners. This pod will also allow for meeting room space for workshops and other functions with a capacity of 90 persons per pod with a potential annual audience of over 15,000. The theme of the November 29 launch was “How to have a Green Holiday.” Intended to celebrate the launch of the CMHC Eco Pods and to reinforce the message of sustainable living, the Sustainable Condo was decorated in a green, eco friendly manner with items such as trees, wreaths, eco gifts and eco candles. Celebrity media teams were on hand to compete in a “green” wreath decorating challenge. All wreaths, trees and decorations were then donated to recipients of CMHC s Shelter Enhancement Program for youth, seniors, women and men. The Sustainable Condo will be on exhibit in the CMHC Eco Pods at Exhibition Place throughout 2008 and open to the public during special events such as the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), August 15 – September 1, 2008.
